NFL
-Darren McFadden finally named starting RB of the Raiders
-Kenny Britt caught 4 passes for over 80 yards in his NFL debut, while Justin Gage catches 7 balls and a TD
-Santonio Holmes goes off for 9 catches, over 100 yards and a TD in Steelers win
-Steelers coach Mike Tomlin indicated after Thursday's game that SS Troy Polamalu was initially diagnosed with a sprained MCL in his left knee and he is expected to mis 3-6 weeks
-According to Saints beat writer Mike Triplett, Pierre Thomas (MCL sprain) "almost certainly" will miss the season opener Sunday and will be replaced by Mike Bell.

MLB
-John Lackey tossed a complete-game shutout as the Angels defeated the Mariners 3-0 on Thursday night.
-Nationals prospect Ian Desmond went 2-for-4 with a homer, a double and four RBI in his major-league debut

NBA
The Celtics are optimistic that Kevin Garnett (knee surgery) will be ready for full-contact practice at the start of training camp.
